Fire Drill For Safety Awareness In High Rise Building Lauded

In a moved aimed at fostering greater consciousness on fire safety and standards with the recent increase in high-rise buildings in Klang, the Fire Services and Safety Department conducted a fire drill this morning at Intan Millennium Square (IMS) in Taman Intan, Klang, the first landmark highrise twin-tower office complex in Klang.

The exercise, held in cooperation with the building management, is aimed at promoting awareness of the importance of evacuation procedures in highrise buildings.

While the Fire Department makes regular inspections of highrise buildings to ensure compliance to safety rules and regulations, as part of its safety awareness programme, the Department encourages building managements to conduct fire drills to ensure occupants are familiar with safety evacuation procedures.

A fire brigade crew from the Klang North Fire Services and Safety Department was at the building to oversee the drill exercise to ensure that it is carried out properly and safely as well as to provide demonstration on the use of fire extinguishers.

IMS is a twin tower corporate building comprising Menara Trend (16 levels) and Menara ING (14 levels) sharing a common podium. The building has more than 1,500 people working in it and is also patronized by thousands of visitors daily.

“The Emergency Evacuation Drill which is part of the building management’s initiatives towards making IMS a safer working environment is lauded and should be emulated” said Encik Yatim, Ketua Ahli Bomba from the Department.

“Whilst IMS is fully-equipped with the necessary prevention, safety and fire fighting systems of a high rise building, the ability to safely evacuate the building is critical to the safety of its occupants and visitors. It is therefore crucial for all occupants in the building to be familiar with safety evacuation procedures and pathways to all the exits in order to ensure a safe evacuation in case of emergency” said Mr Toh Yoke Sen, the Building Manager of IMS.

Mr Ng Kong Ling of Trend Group, the developer of the building said that such regular emergency evacuation drills which increases the level of preparedness contributes to the greater safety rating of the building.

“We are thankful for the cooperation and kind assistance given to us by BOMBA” he said.

Mr M Arumugam from PortsWorld Sdn Bhd, a pioneer tenant in Menara Trend said that he was very pleased with the caring attitude of the building management of IMS. Besides all the safety features in the building we are also pleased to note the initiatives taken by the building owners to install CCTV security system as well as providing 24-hour petrol guards.

“The building services is excellent and exceeds our expectations” added Mr Arumugam.
