The Federation of Malaysia Port Operating
Companies has launched a news magazine with a
view to fulfilling the need to provide
authoritative information on the transport and
port industry in the country.
“Over the years we have felt that there was a
general lack of reliable, independent and
authoritative information on the transport
industry in general and ports in particular in
the country,” noted the chairman of the
Federation, Datuk Mohd Sidek Shaik Osman in his
message in the inaugural issue of “Ports
Review”.
He said the public profile and image of the port
industry in the country also did not
commensurate with the success achieved by the
privatized ports.
”FMPOC decided that one way to fill this vacuum
was by producing an industry journal. The Ports
Review offers an opportunity for the industry to
enhance its public and corporate image
consistent with the increasing importance and
rising expectations of the logistics industry in
the country,” said Sidek, who is the chairman of
Port of Tanjung Pelepas in Johor.
“It is our intention however that the Ports
Review will be an independent Journal by, for
and about the maritime industry in general and
the port sector in particular. We welcome all of
you to be part and parcel of this endeavour to
reach out and touch every link of the logistics
chain be it Malaysian or global,” he said.
The Federation (FMPOC) comprises members from
all major ports in the Country. Together the
ports handle almost ninety per cent of total
cargo through Malaysian Ports. |
