Selangor Freight Forwarders &
Logistics Association (SFFLA) will monitor the
trial run of the implementation of the three-day
free storage period for containers at Port Klang
that started last Saturday.
The two-month trial run is to ensure the smooth
implementation of the regulation that will come
into force effective from Jan 1 to reduce the
period for containers to store at Port Klang
terminal for free from five days in the past to
three days.
The implementation of the shorter container
storage period had been postponed several times
in the past couple of years.
SFFLA honorary secretary general Wee Ah Sah said
the association would monitor the trial run of
the new regulations on a weekly basis.
“We have to identify the hitches and iron them
out,” he said.
He said Port Klang Authority (PKA) should set up
a communication platform for all players
involved in the smooth running of the new
regulations.
According to PKA, the shorter free storage
period for containers is in accordance with
international standards, and would improve the
utilisation of containers and maximise usage of
container yard space.
With the lower fuel price, Wee said the
association had on Nov 1 lowered fuel surcharge
for container freight station to RM1.50 from
RM2.50 per freight tonne on Nov 1. |
