Penang Port is going online
with its web-based free commercial zone system (FCZ
System) and supply bunker notification system (BunkerOnline).
Penang Port Commission (PPC) chairman Tan Cheng
Liang said they had developed the online FCZ
System to enable freight forwarding companies to
submit declarations on import, export and cargo
transshipment electronically; and access real
time information on declaration statuses and
value-added activities 24 hours a day.
“They can access the online system from their
homes or offices any time. They can now submit
declarations around the clock on any day of the
week, not like the previous practice of manual
submissions and processing.
“Use of the system, which is on trial run since
Oct 8, is also free,” she said in a press
conference at her Bangunan Seri Weld office in
Weld Quay yesterday.
As for BunkerOnline, Tan said the new web-based
online notification system would improve Penang
Port’s effectiveness in service.
“BunkerOnline will provide the first response to
deal with incidents involving the handling of
bunkering operations like bunker fuel spills and
fires.
“The system will later be linked to the Fire and
Rescue Department, Occupational Safety and
Health Department, Domestic Trade and Consumers
Affairs Ministry, Malaysia Maritime Enforcement
Agencies and other relevant government
authorities,” Tan said.
BunkerOnline will also be integrated with other
systems developed by PPC like Dangerous Goods
Declaration system D(Online) and Pre-arrival
Notification of Ship Security (PANS), and to 10
registered bunker suppliers and nine terminal
operators.
Both the FCZ System and BunkerOnline will be
officially launched early next year.
The two online systems will also be placed into
PPC’s corporate website to provide single entry
for users in-line with a single-window concept.
