There
was no oil spill in waters here when a fire broke out on a ship
laden with 8,600 tonnes diesel and oil about one nautical mile
from north Tanjung Lipat here.
Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency Sabah chief First Admiral
Mohd Taha Ibrahim said the blaze only affected a small section of
the Singapore-registered vessel MT Sinar Agra at about 6.50pm on
Saturday.
“The fire, which was put out by the crew, occurred at the front
portion of the ship and did not affect the oil storage area,” he
said yesterday.
He said the fire was put out within an hour, adding that one of
the 18 crew members suffered an injury to his leg and was treated
at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The oil tanker, he said, had been brought into Kota Kinabalu
waters and a special team from Singapore was investigating the
cause of the fire. |
