MTUC: Workers need rep on PKA board

The Malaysian Trades Union Congress (MTUC) has called on the Transport Ministry to appoint a workers’ representative on the Port Klang Authority (PKA) board to look after the interests of the 20,000 port workers.

Vice-president A. Balasubramaniam said there had been no workers’ representative on the board since June last year following a revamp.

He said the MTUC disagreed with the ministry’s assertion that the PKA board should comprise professionals, namely those who could contribute to the port’s operations.

“Workers’ contribution to the port’s operations is vital and they should be represented on the board,” Balasubramaniam, who is also secretary of the Union of Employees of Port Ancillary Services Supplies, said yesterday. — Bernama
