The command ship of the
United States Seventh Fleet, the 39-year-old USS
Blue Ridge, arrived at the Star Cruises Terminal
in Port Klang yesterday for a friendly two-day
visit.
The ship, which is based in Yokosuka, Japan, can
accommodate 268 officers and 1,200 enlisted
personnel and is equipped with 50-calibre
machine guns and has a complement of two Seahawk
helicopters on board.
During the visit, the renowned Seventh Fleet
Band took the opportunity to entertain
Malaysians and tourists alike at the 1 Utama
Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya.
The performance took place at 6.30pm yesterday.
This is not the first time the command ship has
paid a call on Malaysian shores and its last
visit was in March of 2007.
Prior to that visit, sailors from the USS Blue
Ridge had played friendly volleyball and
football matches with Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN)
personnel in 2006.
On that occasion, RMN did Malaysia proud by
winning the football match 3-1. |
